Golf, “a beautiful sport for beautiful people”-In Depth Study (Entry #2)
Even though we continue to have rain showers, the golfing season has just gotten underway. Indeed, golfing could be considered a year-round sport where golfers play in different continents during the year. However, for my first stage of learning, I will be limited to learning the game at the range, through the web, and from my mentor. Nevertheless, I have already had conversations with Eddie, my mentor. Eddie, started learning golf first from his aunt at around the age of 8. Later, he took lessons with golf instructors as he continues to play and has a passion for this sport. Eddie has a tremendous golf IQ and consistently scores in the low 80′s. In fact, he is capable of entering amateur golf tournaments.
“The general idea is that golf is a mental game - like, once you are able to hit a solid golf shot, it’s more shot selection and remembering how to swing and not taking unnecessary risks, but you have to brush those behind you. You can’t remember the bad shots. A key thing to know is how to guess distances and how to match that with your club choice.”

Golf some would say is a boring sport to watch. As my mentor puts it” golf can get a bit boring, but it has its highlights and what I like most about golf isn’t watching, you learn judgment, patience, and integrity“. Unlike many sports, golfing is a mental game. There are always situations in the game where you will have to make decisions accordingly as well as slowing the game down and being honest with your score. We’ve already discussed about how I can improve my golf swing and other things I can take on. It will still be a while until I hit the course, but of course, I want to get all the fundamentals and form down first.
So, when did people start playing golf and who invented this game? Actually, nobody really knows exactly who invented golf. Scotland and Great Britain are the two places most widely believed to be where golf was invented. In Great Britain, golf has been played since 1340. Back then, golf was a game played by royal people such as King James IV of Scotland. Today, even the President plays this marvelous sport and it is quite popular among the general public. For many years, the game was played on rough terrain without proper greens, just crude holes cut into the ground where the surface was reasonably flat! Golf has really changed since Tiger Woods came into the PGA tour. His stardom attracted many young people to start playing the sport and also influenced many future golfers who have looked up to him. Perhaps one of the best golfers in PGA history, Stewart Cink, even says, “Chasing Tiger Woods is always the tallest task on the PGA Tour.”
Golf is 20 percent talent and 80 percent management.
